Why Garlic and Honey?
Both garlic and honey have powerful medicinal properties that make them perfect for soothing a child’s cough:
-
Garlic contains allicin, a compound with antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps fight off infections that cause coughs and colds.
-
Honey is naturally soothing and coats the throat, reducing irritation and suppressing coughing. It also acts as a mild antibacterial agent.
How to Prepare Garlic and Honey Infusion
Ingredients:
-
3–4 fresh garlic cloves
-
½ cup of natural raw honey (avoid processed or flavored honey)
Instructions:
-
Peel and slightly crush the garlic cloves to release their natural oils.
-
Place the crushed garlic in a clean glass jar.
-
Pour the honey over the garlic until fully covered.
-
Cover the jar tightly and let it sit for 8–12 hours (overnight) at room temperature.
-
The next morning, strain out the garlic (optional) or leave it in if your child doesn’t mind the flavor.
Store the mixture in a cool, dry place or refrigerate. It can last for up to a week.
How to Use It for Children
-
Give ½ teaspoon for children aged 1 to 5 years,
-
Or 1 teaspoon for children above 6 years.
-
Administer it 2–3 times daily (morning, afternoon, and before bed).
Important Note:
